Below is a GIF of how to import the numbered files from a kit folder (the gif is also at the bottom of the link above, if this img URL breaks in the future)
I have made a bunch of kits using the Numbered Files output. I am finding a Maschine kit i am interested in, then all i do is drag contents of the kit folder to the pads. It fills the whole kit correctly.

Hello! Thanks for the heads up on this. After glancing at this for a few seconds it seem like a reasonable compromise. I hear what you say about the Bitwig file formats. The Bitwig audio engine is pure C++, but the front end is Java. I suspect that the front end takes responsibility for the file handling and uses, I suspect, some Java Class -> Serialised data approach.

I once attempted to write code which read the metadata from Bitwig presets, and the code was riddled with code to read longints to determine the length of the string data to follow and so on. The code worked and I can give you the code in a choice of languages: Go, Scala, Rust and Mojo. Like I say, it only reads the preset metadata - God knows how to write the data 😉
