Well, it would lead to an endless discussion, but Yamaha produced more music intruments (also guitars, drums etc) and gear than Roland and Korg that are appealing to me.They Didn't have that much exciting things in the Past except for a bunch of Experimental Limited synths with weird layout and functions and how many more FM, Piano and Organs do we really need. It's very clever to focus on Yamaha and somebody told me long b4 abou5 the coming release of Model 77 - CS60/80).
Yamaha have been sleeping too long and not releasing emus of their good old synths, pianos and irgans. Well, they have Montage (it's freat, no doubt) now, but Korg and Roland offer their softsynths more or less successfully
It is first when they joined the Digital era that they started to make some cool stuff but most of them included menu diving, small amount of preset storage or non at all or had simplified or weird way of doing things.
I would like to see a AN1X without filter stepping as a vst or all the digital CS-X Series in one vst and the montage and that is about it.
They have made the Montage that has all of that in one Vst but they decided that it is not for the masses and it will cost you minimum $3.500 to get it so again we see Yamaha being Yamaha with their weird way of doing things.
Their combo organs YC-series (used by Sly Stone etc) are awesome, also their electric piano CP-series, Yamaha grand pianos are one of the best. There's not just Steinway or Rhodes! The list of old synths would be too long.
Of course I like Roland's TR- and Boss oedal stuff and also Korg has some grwat synths, but Yamaha don't release softsynths and especially their rare synths like VL1 are outstanding.
